Nokia Research Center presents Nokia Instant Community

Nokia Research Center revels Nokia Instant Community, which enables you to chat and share content with those around you instantly without the need for WLAN infrastructure or Bluetooth and cellular connections.

Nokia Instant Community is a new, instant way for communities to socially interact when in close proximity, without the need for WLAN infrastructure or Bluetooth and cellular connections. The user interface for the Nokia Instant Community concept demo was developed by Tampere University of Technology (TUT), while NRC Helsinki developed the underlying communications technology that allows a device to communicate directly with a large number of other devices in an easy and fully automatic manner at very low power consumption, and within an excellent range. This is part of ongoing research into cognitive radio technology at NRC Helsinki.

Nokia Instant Community thus offers users an easy way to create and join social communities and bringing virtual, social networks to reality. The research concept was presented publicly for the first time today at the inaugural Tampere Innovation Experience, an event which brought together the Tampere research community to unleash resources and accelerate idea sharing in the spirit of open innovation.
