Nokia mail and chat services which were previously know as Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat are now called Nokia Mail and Nokia Chat powered by Yahoo. “Ovi” logo and site title of  Mail / Chat has been replaced with ”Nokia” brand, however the domain for these services remains the same. So, there is no change over the mail URL or on your mail id.

At phone launch, Nokia India Director Sales Vipul Sabharwal said “We want to develop products that meet the changing needs and aspirations of Indian consumers. We will introduce a range of dual-SIM handsets, which have something more to offer, in the next 6-9 months.”

Manufactured at Nokia’s Chennai factory, Both handsets feature Nokia’s Easy Swap function, which allows users to swap between SIM cards without removing the battery. Both handsets comes pre-loaded with Nokia Life Tools, an SMS based, subscription information service designed for emerging markets, which offers a wide range of information services covering healthcare, agriculture, education and entertainment. The Nokia X1-01 also comes pre-loaded with Nokia Money Service help users to keep track of daily finances.

Nokia’s new dual-SIM phones  –  Nokia C2-00 and Nokia X1-01 — are priced at about Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000, respectively.

If you remember Nokia and Yahoo entered into a partnership last year, where Yahoo’s maps and navigation services were going to be “powered by” Ovi, Nokia’s brand of software and services and Nokia’s Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat will likewise be “powered by”  Yahoo.

 

Well, about two months ago the process of migration was initiated, which is now reached its final stage. The Ovi Mail is  now officially Powered by Yahoo!, Bringing significant improvements, including better social integration, improved contacts management, a more customizable experience, and better search and spam filters.

About Dual Sim, Dual-Standby Devices:-

“Dual SIM, Dual-Standby devices allow users to choose which SIM card to use for calls, messages and other functions, and switch between them easily from call to call. The ‘Dual-Standby’ part means that you can always receive notification of calls and messages on each account – rather than having to switch your SIM cards on and off.”

Nokia X1-01:-

The Nokia X1-01 is a music machine, as evidenced by the massive speaker on the back, which can deliver up to 106 phon. A phon (and you’re forgiven for not knowing – we didn’t until we looked it up on Wikipedia) is a unit of perceived loudness. If you have 106 of them in a mobile device, it’s loud enough to serve as a makeshift home-entertainment system. The speaker has also been specially tuned so that there’s little distortion, even when turned up to eleven. The Nokia X1-01 has in fact got the loudest and clearest speaker Nokia has ever produced!

Nokia C2-00:-

The Nokia C2-00 offers a number of additional features. The main one is the way the SIM cards are arranged, offering Easy Swap, a feature that’s only on offer from Nokia. One SIM card is stored internally, like a traditional phone. The second card is easily accessible through a slot in the side – so you don’t have to open or even switch the phone off to change SIMs. This is especially useful for people who want to use more than two SIMs, such as if the phone was to be shared between different members of a family, a group of friends or various community members, for example.

Nokia C2-00 runs Series 40, which offers some key advantages in the form of internet access, a web browser and Nokia Messaging for email. The Nokia C2-00 also sports a VGA camera and allows for MMS messaging. There’s support for up to 32GB of storage using an SD card, allowing users to carry thousands of photos, videos and music files.

 

In selected markets, the two phones will be offered with Ovi Life Tools: bringing news, market prices, entertainment, health advice and education services to people who are likely to find it difficult to get these things in other ways.”

The Nokia X1-01 and Nokia C2-00 will ship this quarter in India, China, South-East Asia/Pacific region, Middle East and Africa, Eurasia and Brazil. Before local taxes or subsidies, the X1-01 will cost €34 while the C2-00 will cost €45.

You get a faster and more powerful Mail experience with new features that make your email experience better. In addition, Chat users will be able to experience Chat on the web for the first time! And last but not least, if you’re a Mail or Chat powered by Yahoo! user, you can use your Nokia or Ovi account to log in to other Yahoo! services like Yahoo! News or Finance.

• When is all of this available?

Mail powered by Yahoo! is already running, and you can immediately start using the updated web experience at http://mail.ovi.com. Although you can use all of the new functionality immediately, you might notice that you don’t see all of your emails or contacts right away. Don’t worry because all of your data is safe. The reason you won’t see it yet is due to the fact that so many Mail users and emails are migrating over, that it will take several days to a couple of weeks for it to be completed.  So you’ll be able to send and receive emails and enjoy the new experience completely, but it may take several days to see all of your old emails, contact lists, or account settings. You’ll receive an email from us once your data has been fully migrated to Yahoo!.

• What if I haven’t accepted the Terms of Service yet?

If you haven’t yet accepted the Terms of Service it’s not too late. Just go to http://mail.ovi.com and accept. You have 90 days following the beginning of the migration on April 6^th, 2011, to pull your email and contact data into the new experience. Following those 90 days, you can still join, although without the benefit of your previous data.

If you have additional questions there are two support sites available. The Mail Support Site has basic FAQs and guidance on this process, and will be updated in the coming weeks to reflect the latest on our migration.
